The kids-tour race 2023 ends with a DNF before the start. Sad and unbelievable - the kids-tour will not take place in 2023. We are at a loss for words, the immeasurable disappointment is too great. We look forward, continue to believe in the idea FAIR GOES BEFORE, in the many starters, helpers, partners, sponsors and supporters. Thank you to all supporters! Stay true to your ideals! Do not give up!
History
The organising team has been working on the implementation for a year. Many things have improved: an additional stage, different routes, passing Berlin landmarks, significantly more starters than in 2022 and importantly: unlike in previous years, the local politicians now support the kids-tour. New and existing partners, sponsors and helpers are enthusiastic. 30 years of kids-tour, 30 years of FAIR GOES FIRST, 30 years of international understanding. We are very proud of what we have achieved. And yet - the whole team gets a DNF, we don't take part in the sprint to the finish.
Why no kids-tour?
Can there be any reasons against a children's event? No. And what reason does the organising team have not to let the kids ride in the heart of Berlin, what reasons are there for our difficult step?
1. financial donation
Sport, art and culture live on financial support. The sports metropolis Berlin, i.e. the Senate Department for Sport, expects the stages of the kids-tour to take place in Berlin again. Nevertheless, Berlin does not invest in kids-tour . There, too, our Berlin cycling federation is acting unhappily. It does not speak well of the kids-tour to the sponsors. Mandatory written endorsements are not issued to donors. Finally, the Landessportbund Berlin also refuses to provide financial support. The decades-long financial contribution to the kids-tour is diverted to their own event. The traditional event will once again go empty-handed after 2022.
2. Berlin cycling federation sues kids-tour
The Berlin cycling federation continues to work against the national league club Wheel Divas e.V.. Currently, it is the children and the traditional event that are being hit. A discussion with us as organisers, as reported by the BRV, has not been held until today, which is why there is no time? In addition, the BRV recently filed a complaint against Wheel Divas e.V.. In the complaint, the BRV contradicts the court's decision to hold the kids-tour in 2022. The consequences for the kids and us as organisers in 2023 are?
3. can we compensate for the handicaps?
Wheel Divas e.V. is one of the smallest cycling clubs in Berlin and one of the most active as a national league team, organiser and trainer of young cyclists.
The demands on a complex tour are very high in a metropolis like Berlin and are constantly growing. Professional and full-time structures are necessary. Members of the organising team work on a voluntary basis, the inner circle of experts and specialists is very small. A lack of finances means that even more work has to be done by the organisation itself, and even fewer service providers. The financial capacity together with the sponsorship income of the kids-tour continues to increase excellently. Nevertheless, there are limits. A logical additional financial burden on all European teams is unreasonable. It is rejected by the board.
Conclusion: The voluntary organising team cannot adequately compensate for the demands of the authorities in terms of personnel and the Wheel Divas e.V. association in terms of finances.Das ehrenamtliche Orgateam kann personell und Verein Wheel Divas e.V. finanziell die vor allem behördlichen Anforderungen nicht angemessen ausgleichen.
Why so late?
We apologise for the late cancellation. We have checked all options until Monday, 08.08.23. The decision of the board of Wheel Divas e.V. and the organising team will be made at 13:00.
Wheel Divas and the goal missed?
The 2023 goal of 10 international cycling stages will not be reached by Wheel Divas e.V. with this decision. It is "only" 5 stages, because the new Oderrundfahrt Womenstour is a complete success. The association and the organising team are professional and know what can be achieved and what is no longer possible, where we have limits.
The kids-tour has a future like all children have a future. In 2022 we will save the kids-tour, in 2023 we will take in the sails. The course 2024 is clear! And please to all - don't give up! Even a Germany Tour didn't take place for a few years and today it is stronger than ever.
