After an atmospheric 3rd stage, the 4th and final stage followed today.

The circuit through Berlin once again demanded everything. Girls and boys alike were eagerly awaiting the overall result. In the end, everyone is a winner somehow, the winners, placers and participants.

The 28th International kids-tour 2022 keeps its promise. Lots of emotions with laughter and tears and a promise: See you again in 2023.

4th stage kids-tour

The programme is full again: team presentation, circuit race, wheel and fat tyre race, final award ceremony. The circuit race is 23 km for the U13s and 44 km for the U15s. A course in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf with a length of just under 3 kilometres was raced. Four corners, four times braking, four times starting per lap. That demands a lot of strength and concentration on the last day. Originally, more than 40 teams with about 200 starters registered with the organiser Wheel Divas Cycling Team. Now there were 26 starters in the U13 age group and 41 in the U15 age group. The traditional girls' race was part of the U15 classification. The girls, who are so important to us, got an extra classification.

The speaker was again Karl-Heinz Wenddorff. He was the first speaker of the kids-tour in 1993, at that time together with the founder Jens-Holger Mey. "Kalle" did it again with flying colours, at least according to the old hands among the audience.

God Peter was kind to us again after Friday: we had the best weather conditions.

The race

Unlike the final stage at the Tour de France, today, as expected, the starters and teams wanted to determine the results in their favour right from the start. Also the jersey rankings

  • Best girl - pink jersey,

  • best young athlete - white jersey,

  • Best overall individual - yellow jersey or

  • overall sprint ranking - green jersey

were hotly contested. Every rider gave everything with maximum effort, nothing was left to chance..

Wheel and fat tyre races

At lunchtime, the very smallest racers could race across Berlin's streets. The wide tyre fraction was dominated by SC Berlin.

The last one had it best. He crossed the finish line after 3km, escorted by the police bicycle squad and our motorbike squad.

Results and presents

As always, Herzog- Sport made the results available online within a very short time. Christine Mähler was in charge of the commissioners' college. She was assisted by Ramona Pultz, Christian Kuschke, Peter Mattke, Sascha Larisch, Christian Lemke and Frank Schönfeldt. They had nothing to correct today. Quality and quantity were right here, too. Compared to other events, this pleased not only the little racers, but also the sporting directors and coaches for the evaluations.

Among others, Torsten Schubert and wife | BURN Berliner Verein zur Unterstützung des Radsportnachwuchses e. V. (Berlin Association for the Support of Young Cyclists) took the honours. Sina Päske | Wheel Divas e.V. and the chief commissioner Christine Mähler.

The main prizes for the overall individual classification were provided by Briko with its representative BMM Sports GmbH from Austria. Helmet and goggles received

Postscript

Within less than two weeks the 28th International kids-tour was organised. And this despite applications without a penny of public money. Many thanks for the many good discussions; it is motivating to know that we are doing the right thing. "KBV" - no special incidents - the organising team is very, very satisfied. Everything has worked and is working, and there is a lot of room for improvement.

At the very end, there was a well-deserved after-work beer, alternatively a shandy or champagne on Landsberger Chaussee. Many thanks to the entire team, everyone contributed to the success: in the end, it's the result that counts. And that was great!

If you have any suggestions or tips, please feel free to contact us. Nothing is so perfect that it can't be made better.

We will review everything here again in due course, then with all sponsors, supporters and helpers.

Fairness first.
